Throwing Shade: Exposing Podcast Get-Rich-Quick Scams

Throwing Shade: Exposing Podcast Get-Rich-Quick Scams

Normally, I try to stay positive and encouraging. Maybe I still am, as I encourage you not to fall for these Podcast Tools (often based on AI) that promise great success and wealth without doing any work. Here are some of the things this company (who will remain nameless) promised:

  • A chart-topping podcast in minutes
  • You don't even need a microphone (think about that)
  • Just let AI clone your voice, make an AI video version of you, and make six figures.
  • Podcasting is expensive (it's not -you can get started for $80)
  • Instant money from advertising (when big sponsors need 10-20,000 downloads per episode)
  • It quotes successful podcasts that aren't using their system (and sell their own products, not advertising).

Takeaways:

  • You don't monetize a podcast - you monetize an audience.
  • If it were this easy, everyone would do it - and all podcasts would be the same.
  • Many podcasting scams prey on the uneducated, making it sound easy to succeed.
  • Building a podcast audience takes time, typically around three years, so be patient.
  • Don't fall for the hype that you can create a podcast in minutes without effort.
  • You can't skip the hard work of podcasting and expect to succeed; it requires consistency in schedule and consistency in quality content.

Dave Jackson

Every single year we hear it. Here comes January. And then the ads come on. You can lose weight without changing what you eat or exercising. And then it's something really weird that you would never do. Just sprinkle this lobster dust on your food and the pounds will melt away. And you are hearing something and you want to believe it because wouldn't be great if I could lose weight just by sprinkling lobster dust on my food. Yeah, I'm not going to change anything, but somehow I'm going to end up with a new result. And the problem is these things make lots of money because we want to believe it. We want to believe it's easy. We want to believe that if I just follow these steps, it will work. Well, today I ran across such a.I don't want to say scam. I am very skeptical of the content. I gotta make sure not to get sued here.I am very skeptical of the content of a sales pitch for podcasters and I want to go through it and explain my skepticism. Yeah, I think I won't get sued by that. Hit it, ladies. The school of Podcasting with Dave Jackson.Podcasting since 2005, I am your award winning hall of fame podcast coach, Dave Jackson. Thanking you so much for tuning in. If you're new to the show, we normally talk about how to plan your show and launch it and grow it, monetize it.Yeah. Today we're just throwing shade. That's it. Welcome to the Throwing shade episode of the School of Podcasting. My website is schoolofpodcasting.com use the coupon code listener. That's l, I S T E N E R when you sign up. Yeah, I saw this. And so here's what I've done, because in the past I went after a company. And by the way, this company did the same thing. And this time I brought proof. They have a countdown timer and when it goes to zero, it resets. That's called fear of missing out. Right. You'll hear people talk about fomo. If I don't order it now, it's gonna go up $10. And then I watched it Countdown go to zero and not go up by $10.Now, call me crazy, in, in my world, I call that lying. But maybe they define the truth a little different than I do.So I'm not going to say the name of the company, but just know that I want to really bad. And so I thought what we would start off. Now, this is somewhat of a long clip and about halfway through you're gonna go, yeah, Dave, I get the point. But it's worth saying one of the things I say to grow an audience, because you don't monetize a podcast, you monetize an audience. And this isn't just about monetization, it's about growing an audience. And I've always said in my research, I have found that most people that are making, you know, countable income, it takes three years. And I have found a couple more clips and I've added it to my collection. And here's my collection of why I say it takes three years, if you're really good, to build an audience. So when we started our podcast three years ago, we already had quite a bit of connections. You become a six figure blogger and, you know, is it really possible to do it in a year or less?

Speaker B

So I wouldn't say like it is a typical route.

Dave Jackson

I would say that, like, probably people are talking about it. The more typical is like, you need like three years.

Speaker B

Whatever you want to have in three years, you have to start today to get it.And I think this is also something, if you think of podcasting, if you think of SEO, two to three years, I would say is a very good timeframe to achieve a lot of things.

Dave Jackson

Well, that's gonna take a few years before you make $1. Because my first ad came three years into it. Anybody in their right mind would have gave up by then, but that's all businesses. All businesses quit.I have to interrupt. What was the timeline again? Three years for the first ad. There we go. That's my favorite answer. I tell people all the time and.

Speaker B

I'm like, do you really have the patience to go through this?

Dave Jackson

Because from what I heard from all.

Speaker B

These amazing experts, and I can tell.

Dave Jackson

You from my own example, is it takes three plus years. That's the one thing where a content.

Speaker B

Creator really needs to choose whether they're.

Dave Jackson

In it to win it. So, you know, nine downloads a day, and it was only like, you know, three years into it where it really started to take off.And yeah, we're trying different things, but.

Speaker B

I think if I were to give.

Dave Jackson

You any tip at all, if there's only one from this talk, it's just consistency, right? It's not even just podcasting, it's not just content marketing. It's your business, it's your life, right?Even in a relationship, just consistency, right? You just keep on going. Our research at Tilt Publishing shows It takes about 18 months to start making money. But I truly believe that number is three to four years. And guess what? That's pretty much like any other small business. It took three years for my podcast to garner attention. It can take off so many of the pressure, especially when we realize that the average product or business takes three years. And is, is it official? Is it okay to say you're crushing it now with your course? Yeah, we're crushing it. We are multiple six figures. Nice. We've come a long way in the last years. That's awesome. And like you like again. And we never made a money for three years. Three years. Three years. There's that saying again. Thank you.You just got yourself into the school of podcasting. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I do research. I come back, I reported to you when I did my book Profit from your podcast.Everyone I talked to, I asked, how long did it take? They said around three years. When I said, what percentage of your audience takes action? It was around 3%.When I talked to the people from teachable, they said 2%. When I talked to the head of NPR plus, he said, yeah, 1%. And I report back to you. Why?Because I want you to go in with the right mindset and look, three years is not a guarantee. I've had people do that. They're like, hey, I've been doing my three years. I'm ready to monetize. I go, how's your audience? And they go, yeah, it's still pretty small. It's. There's no guarantees. Here we are in the entertainment business, whether we want to be or not, even if we're an educator, we have to kind of do it in, you know, an educational and entertaining way to get people to tell their friends there are no guarantees. We'll talk maybe a little later about American Idol, but I saw this and it's really good marketing and.But it's absolute, in my opinion, questionable. I want to say other words, but I won't. So let me quit talking about it and I'm just going to go line by line through this. Here is again. This was the sales pitch. This isn't the actual sales pitch. I transcribed it and now we're going to listen to another version of it. But this is exactly what they said.

Speaker B

Imagine creating a top charting podcast in minutes without ever speaking into a mic, showing your face, or spending thousands on production.

Dave Jackson

All right, let's just pause right there. So in minutes it's going to be chart topping and you don't even have to be involved.

Speaker B

What if a simple text idea could turn into a viral video podcast?

Dave Jackson

To quote the immortal Steve Martin, what if we could turn dog poop into gold.

Speaker B

Complete with AI generated hosts, lip synced characters, and even your own voice.

Dave Jackson

Well, hey, at least they got the lip sync part. So I won't look like a bad Godzilla movie.

Speaker B

All while you sit back and let AI do the work.

Dave Jackson

That's it. Just like weight loss. You don't have to change anything you've ever done and millions will fall from heaven.

Speaker B

Or imagine launching a faceless podcast channel that earns over $5,000 per month on autopilot.

Dave Jackson

And I don't know about you, but watching the images from Amazon being zoomed in while I listen to bad AI is just riveting. And to get that kind of money, you'd have to have a million views on that video.

Speaker B

It sounds unbelievable, right?

Dave Jackson

So this is where they go, see, I can hear your voice going, yeah, that does sound kind of cray cray.

Speaker B

Podcasting is now a $2 billion industry and growing fast. Businesses growing fast.

Dave Jackson

Mmm. That's questionable because it grows about somewhere between 3 to 5%.Podcasting has been around for 20 years and we've been saying, oh, we're going to hit 2 billion for about the last five.

Speaker B

Influencers and content creators are making millions from podcasts.

Dave Jackson

And of course, on their website, who do they show? Joe Rogan. Keep in mind, unless you're named Joe Rogan, that's not you.

Speaker B

And demand has never been higher.

Dave Jackson

And yet the price of advertising is going down. Hmm, that doesn't make sense.

Speaker B

The problem? Traditional podcasting is expensive, time consuming and requires tech skills.

Dave Jackson

And they're trying to scare you now. Ooh, it's expensive. Even though I can show you how to start a podcast for $80. Yep, 80 bucks. You're up and going on a solo show.

Speaker B

Until now. With just a few clicks, you can now create and publish highly engaging AI powered podcasts.Fully scripted, voiced and lip synced characters ready to monetize. Let me introduce you to Ellen Yin.

Dave Jackson

Quick reminder, she's not using their product.

Speaker B

She quit her 9 to 5 job with just $100 in savings.

Dave Jackson

But she just charged you $500 for advertising in her newsletter, $200 for her course. Or if you want to be on her show, it's only $1,000.

Speaker B

And today she makes $960,000 per year with her cubicle to CEO podcast teaching service providers how to reach their first $10,000 per month.

Dave Jackson

And if you go listen to her show, you will see that she is doing it. Not an AI person, not some sort of lip synced, you know, cartoon.

Speaker B

She's doing that or take Annette Thomas, a single mom from Georgia.

Dave Jackson

Wait, Annette's a single mom? I'm a single mom. Maybe I could do this.

Speaker B

She started recording podcasts on her iPhone after work hours and now makes $240,000 per year with her digital Vibe podcast network.

Dave Jackson

And of course, she does that not from her podcast, but from branded clothing. That's 5,000amonth affiliate sales. She's a book reseller. I make per income, if I come close to the estimation, would be around $6,000 a month. If you sum up all the income streams, it would be around 20,000amonth. But notice it's not from her podcast. It's from the audience she built from her podcast. And again, she's not using this product. It's her. It's not AI.

Speaker B

This is the power of podcasting. But let's be real. Starting a podcast isn't easy. You need topics. You need a great voice or expensive voice actors.

Dave Jackson

Not true. There are many people I listen to that do not have the, quote, radio voice. What counts is it's your voice.

Speaker B

You need to edit, add music and sound effects.

Dave Jackson

Again, not true. I know people that just turn on the mic and when they're done, they turn it off. You don't have to do that. Most people do, but you don't have to.

Speaker B

You need to record weekly or daily episodes.

Dave Jackson

You need to be consistent with your schedule so people can count on you.

Speaker B

You need to promote and publish on multiple platforms.

Dave Jackson

Sounds hard, but when you have a media host, you click publish and it goes to every place you've set up. Not hard at all.

Speaker B

It's time consuming.

Dave Jackson

And this is what's kind of tricky. They mix in truth with stuff that's just. What's the word? Suspicious.

Speaker B

Maybe it's expensive and overwhelming, which is why so many people give up before they even start.

Dave Jackson

And I know I said $80. Hey, if you use your phone, you could start for zero and start a podcast. And as for overwhelming, isn't everything overwhelming the first time you do it? Whether it's driving a car, learning to print your name, you know, anything like that. When you are overwhelmed, when you're pushed out of your comfort zone, that's a good thing. That means you're learning something, which makes you more valuable as a human being.

Speaker B

But what if there was a way to skip all the hassle and still launch a high quality professional podcast in minutes? Yes, meet this pile of crap.

Dave Jackson

All right, if you haven't guessed, that's not really. That's not really the name of the show. But I, I want to go back to my high school teacher who said Dave actually said it to everybody. If there was a way to steal without getting caught, don't you think somebody would have figured it out by now? Because if it was this easy, wouldn't everybody do it?

Speaker B

Meet this pile of crap. The revolutionary AI driven platform that turns your ideas into full fledged audio and video podcasts with just a few clicks.100% AI generated and monetizable.

Dave Jackson

Isn't everything monetizable? I mean, if you Google the phrase artwork made out of poop, that exists.

Speaker B

No talking, no audio or video recording, no experience needed.

Dave Jackson

So it's just going to clone your voice, not your personality, because apparently we don't need that. It's going to make some sort of cool looking cartoon. By the way, everybody that it generates looks gorgeous and handsome. So who doesn't want to look gorgeous.

Speaker B

And handsome with this pile of crap? You can turn simple text ideas into full podcast episodes, choose from ultra realistic AI voices, or use your own clone voice.

Dave Jackson

And look, this guy's a cloned voice or a fake voice or whatever, but you'll hear a little later. He kind of, you know, messes up on some stuff, but you know, do we really want to listen to this non stop.

Speaker B

Creates AI animated video podcasts with talking characters, upload your own photo, or use AI generated avatars for video podcasts. AI does all the work.

Dave Jackson

Remember how he said it's all this hard work and oh, now you don't have to do any of it because you know, AI is here.

Speaker B

The scripting, voicing, editing and publishing. Download and publish instantly to Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube and more. It's like having a professional podcast production team at your fingertips without the cost or the effort or the talent. Now let me show you how it works. Once you're on the dashboard, click on Create podcasts and choose from audio or video podcast option.Next, enter your podcast name, choose the language, how many guests on the podcast, and the podcast style. Now you can either enter your podcast idea or create podcast script from a website.

Dave Jackson

Yes, please don't create a podcast script, just create podcast script or upload a.

Speaker B

Document, select your AI voiceover or clone your own voice. AI will then create the script, set up your video and character, and put everything together for you to edit or modify as you like.

Dave Jackson

It slices it, dices, it, even juliennes.

Speaker B

You can add captions and intro outro and add your own logo, modify characters and everything in between.

Dave Jackson

Order. Now we'll throw in these Steak knives.

Speaker B

Once done, render and download or publish your podcast on any platform you like with your own links, thumbnails and call to action. Ready to start getting your listens, views, leads and sales forever. Now see how easy that was?

Dave Jackson

And to the untrained eye, you're like money's gonna fall from heaven.

Speaker B

No mics, no cameras, no complicated tools, just AI powered podcasting.

Dave Jackson

That's right. It's a podcast with no microph.

Speaker B

The podcast industry is booming with over $2 billion in revenue last year alone.

Dave Jackson

And that's not exact science. How they measure that. I'm just saying. Not saying we didn't. I'm just saying we could use a little more rock solid way to measure that.

Speaker B

Businesses, influencers and content creators are desperate for engaging audio and video content. With this pile of crap, you can tap into this multi billion dollar industry by launching profitable faceless podcast channels that run on autopilot, monetizing through sponsorships, ads and brand deals where the cost per.

Dave Jackson

Thousand downloads was going down consistently to the point that people quit reporting on it.

Speaker B

Creating brand building podcasts for businesses and generating social media clips that drive traffic and sales.

Dave Jackson

I'll put a link in the episode show notes. We've proven that social media isn't really driving a ton of stuff anywhere.

Speaker B

Thousands of users are already making money.

Dave Jackson

Notice they didn't say how many of those thousands were actually using their product.

Speaker B

Check out these real results of people.

Dave Jackson

People who are not using our product.

Speaker B

Now it's your turn to profit from podcasts. And for a limited time.

Dave Jackson

Or is it?

Speaker B

This pile of crap comes with commercial rights so you can create podcasts for clients and charge premium fees.

Dave Jackson

If you can find someone dumber than you to actually buy this, which you'll try to do so that you don't feel like a moron for buying this in the first place.

Speaker B

Whether you're a marketer looking to drive leads with audio and video content, a business owner wanting to build authority, a content creator seeking a passive income. This pile of crap gives you one's idea unfair advantage.

Dave Jackson

I'm sorry, what do you. One more time, Mr. AI person gives you one's idea. That's what I thought you said.

Speaker B

And here's the best part.

Dave Jackson

Or as we like to say, but wait, there's more.

Speaker B

For a limited time, this pile of crap is available for a low one time price and no monthly fees.

Dave Jackson

No monthly fees. Wow.

Speaker B

But this deal won't last long.

Dave Jackson

Or will it? More on that later.

Speaker B

If you act now, you'll receive exclusive bonuses and a 14 day risk free money back guarantee, which I hate because.

Dave Jackson

I offer a 30 day money back guarantee. But at least they got something right in their marketing. But the question is, do they honor it?Because when you go to their site, there isn't much about. Who are these experts that designed this amazing program?

Speaker B

Try it risk free and if you don't love it, we'll refund every penny. But hurry, this special offer is disappearing soon and the price increases every few hours.

Dave Jackson

Here again, their version of what I call the truth and mine differ greatly because when I watch the countdown timer, it just reset.

Speaker B

Imagine waking up tomorrow checking your phone and seeing your first podcast episode already published on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Podcasts with thousands of views and growing.

Dave Jackson

He said thousands. And the average on Libsyn is somewhere around, I want to say 1300, 1200, something like that. And the average is around, I think 150 might be a little lower the median on Buzzsprout. Now remember, Buzzsprout has a free version for you to test, so their number is going to be lower is around 30, which is a long way from thousands, plural.

Speaker B

Your audience is listening, your followers are growing, brands are reaching out for sponsorships, and the best part, you didn't record a single word and it took less than 10 minutes.

Dave Jackson

See, they're trying to get you to. To picture this, the theater of the mind waking up to thousands of downloads. That's what this piece of crap can.

Speaker B

Do for you if you act now. Click the button below to get instant access and start your AI powered podcast journey today.

Dave Jackson

I love the fact that our great AI ended that as a question today.I don't know, but the thing that just burns my butt is they had a countdown timer and I sat there and came back later and watched it count down from 10 seconds and when it got to zero, it just reset. And that is, in my world, a lie. And especially when it says the price is going up by $10 every hour or whatever it was.And so when they say things like one time only payment. Now, maybe not this one, but I've seen things, I've bought things on AppSumo, especially with AI, because AI is expensive. It is to run that server in the background. It's expensive. And so you're not going to do a one time deal.So I would be very surprised if, when you sign up for this thing, if you ever do find it, that they'll be like, yes, it's $39 for your one time payment. And then they give you, like, I don't know, 10 credits. And it turns out to do an episode, it costs 50 credits or something like that.I've seen where you have to keep putting, you know, a nickel into the meter to keep the thing running. So just be careful. Now, what they're doing is just basic marketing, and there's nothing wrong with that. Some people call it the. The pastor layout. So if you ever want to sell something, pastor is a. What is those? Anagrams or whatever where each letter represents something. And I got this from Ray Edwards, who we'll be talking about in the future. He's a great copywriter. And in the episode about running your podcast as a business, I'm going to talk about Ray. But the P is problem. You have a problem and then there's amplify. If you don't do something about the problem, it will get bigger and you'll be a loser. And then S is story. We have the solution or the story. All you have to do. And then we're going to transform you. You were this and now you're this just by doing this. And then the O is offer.Join now and we'll throw in bonus products. And then the R is the response. And so what they're doing is just marketing. It's just the fact that it's, you know, ugh. And then the.I mean, podcasting is not expensive. It can be if you want it to.I usually tell people it's about the price of an Xbox to get going, but you can do it for less than that and you can do it for a whole lot more. They make microphones that are like $3,000 if you want to. Or you could just use this one. That's 80 bucks. It sounds great. The one I'm talking into right now is the rode podmic USB. It's 200 bones. You don't have to be expensive. It's crazy. And so I saw that and was like, okay, so let's talk about something else. When you hear about you can make money from day one, not a lie, you can. But again, making money is not defined. That could be, you know, whatever. Two cents. Well, you're making money from day one.And I have a couple shows that I occasionally will turn on ads and I made $5.75. Where will I spend it all? When I had 1,257 downloads for the month of April, that calculates to a $4 cost per thousand or $4 CPM or.004 cents a download. So if you take that.004 cents and you multiply that by, let's say, I don't know, a hundred, because maybe that's what you're getting per downloads, you know, you end up with like 40 cents. Hooray. Exactly.James Cridlin from podnews.net and speaking of James and his buddy Seth, I love Pod Newsweek review, along with Pod News, the Daily show, and the other thing you have to be careful with is anything from Spotify because they recently came on and said, hey, we paid out $100 million. And James was talking about how that wasn't the number one story. In fact, he only gave it two sentences. And he talks here about what he put in the second sentence. The second sentence saying, that's both ad based revenue and from the Spotify partner program. The company haven't split out the two, which, you know, worthwhile mentioning. So anytime you see a headline from Spotify, you must read the article. Because my favorite was when they said, you can play music in your podcast. And I was like, wow, I can finally play acdc. And then they're like, oh, by the way, the only people that can hear it are paid people who are using the app, not the website. And we have to approve every episode that was way different from the headline that, hey, you can play music in your podcast. So that's something else to always be a little leery of.Any headline from Spotify sometimes has things that they have maybe withheld from the headline. And in just a second, what about those guys that say they can get me to the top of the charts?Well, I interviewed one and I'll just play a quick clip of that right after this. The school of podcasting. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. All right. So many of these quote professional podcast promoters, especially if they end up saying, if I ever hear the phrase, we put you on major websites like Yahoo and People magazine, I tend to run away. But what they do is they don't use your player, because that would make sense. They use their player. And then behind the scenes, before anyone hits play, it starts to download your episode. And I asked them about this and they said this. Now is it actually buffering in the background? Absolutely, yes. Yeah.So before anybody hits play and it's all about, you need to ask about, is this because they'll say it's an IAB certified download because it downloads at least 60 seconds, which makes it look like a play download. And so you need to ask them, is this a verified listen? And it's hard to do that. You can't. But most of these Places are all bunk. And what they do is they will somehow have some sort of bot press play on a bunch of iPhones or something of that nature. And then what you need to be careful of is this will run your downloads up. And I asked them, I said, well, who does this? And they're like marketing people that have to prove their podcast is working to the CEO. And so they hire them. They do this kind of, you know, not so great campaign. They show it to the CEO, he's like, great, keep doing it.And then when they turn it off, their downloads just disappear. They go back to where they were. They might retain maybe 10% of the people that heard their stuff, but there are other people then that will say, hey, okay, we're good CEOs happy. And they're like, yeah, you need to keep paying us, or we'll leave a bunch of bad reviews for you, or they'll do negative things against your podcast. So in general, trying to jump to the front of the line typically doesn't work.In fact, I mean, if I go and ask you who Season 8 of American Idol was, you might now if I said, wait a minute. Live like we're dying. Yeah, that was Chris Allen. He was season eight. What was interesting is he beat Adam Lambert, who went on a tour with Queen, and Chris Allen went on to do a bunch of things that I don't know what he's doing anymore. He could be now, I think all the people that have been on American Idol or these, you know, every country has their own singing show, but how many of them are still on the radio with a hit? That's the whole thing. It's one thing to get you in front of people. It's another thing to stay there. So keep that in mind. That typically, almost always is just, you know, somebody going to light your money on fire. Likewise, Facebook wants you to boost a post. I've heard from so many people that that is just lighting your money on fire. So, Dave, how do you grow your audience? By making content so good that people can't help but tell their friends about it. And then you going to.Wherever your target audience is, you know who your target audience is, right? Specifically, not everybody. Your specific audience go there, make friends with them, and tell them about your show. And again, it's going to take about a couple years to really build that up. There are other things you can do.You can pay for advertising on podcasts and things like that, but there are so many things that I just see people and often what they're doing And I understand it. They're telling you exactly what you want to hear. We can get you to the top of the charts. We can quadruple your downloads. We can, you know, get you sponsorship. And it's not that everyone is lying, but again, we kind of heard some of the things today. It takes some time. It takes a lot of effort. It does.To understand who your audience is and figure out your why and then give them what they want while moving them towards their why. It's not hard. It's simple. But it's not easy to figure that out.And then you just have to consistently deliver value and consistently deliver on whatever schedule you pick. But I just heard this, and I was like, you know what? This is worded in such a way that if you're not careful and you're uninformed, you're gonna fall for this, and they're going to pry that money out of your hands. And the other thing is, it's also so bad you want to give money just to go, well, how bad can this be? And in either way, they win.And when they win, they do more of that stuff, and I'm tired of it. That's the only good news is there are going to be people that are stupid enough to buy this, and when they do, that is now your competition. Yeah.So I hope you can beat a faceless, cloned voice, no personality. Right. It's just going to be a bunch of slop. And so when you come to the school of podcasting and you learn to lean into your personality and learn to figure out what your audience wants and give them what they want. Yo, my goodness, are you going to stand out like a sore thumb compared to people that are trying to make a podcast with no personality? It's literally the epitome. This is the worst question you could ask in podcasting. You ready? Here it is. So what can I talk about? That I will do the least amount of work and make the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time? That is the direct opposite of a good attitude in podcasting. And that's kind of what this tool is gearing people like. It's like, hey, is that you?If so, we've got the tool for you. And I'm just afraid there's a whole bunch of heartache on the other side of that 39 bucks. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.Hey, since this is the Throwing Shade episode here, I wanted to share this, and I. I am trying to not let my attitude go to a place of like, well, we're just going to ruin podcasting. But I would be lying if I said there are times when I just think. I don't think we're going to be able to stop this. But I was watching the TV show Friends on Nickelodeon the other night, and I've noticed that they show a lot of commercials on that station. So this time I was watching with my phone in hand, and they showed 16 advertisements after kind of the first break, and it was five minutes long.So 15 and 30 second ads just back to, back to, back to back to back to back to back to back to back to back to it. It was just your brain kind of just went, are they ever coming back? I need to know what happened to Joey. That was crazy. And then I was watching a Bill Hader clip on the Conan O'Brien needs a friend show. Now, the entire clip was 8 minutes and 26 seconds long. And in the middle there was an ad that was a minute and 31 seconds long, which meant the clip was 26% ads and radio is 30%. And I don't want to see podcasting turn into radio. The problem is, from what I understand, the price of advertising is coming down because of supply and demand. Everybody and their brother has a podcast. And so if you come to me and lowball me and say, I'm only going to give you peanuts, there's somebody that will go, well, it's better than a poke in the eye, and they'll take those peanuts. It reminds me a lot of when banner ads back in the early days of the Internet and there were people that were making some bank with banner ads because there were only so many websites. And then everybody and their brother got a website and the price of banner ads was just a race to the bottom. And so I would love to see podcasters hold their position. I'm just not sure that's going to be possible. And it's easy for me to say, I don't have a wife and kids to feed, but I just wonder sometimes.I'm like, oh, where are we going with this? Can't we just limit it to maybe 10%? It's. It's hard to say, but I just. Because it ruins the experience. There, there were talking and laughing with Bill. I love Bill Hader. If you've never seen Barry on hbo, it's a very unique show. And I was just like, right in the middle of it, it's like, hey, we need to tell you about something that you don't care about. And I was like, oh, is this what we're going to do the podcasting, just ruin the experience because that's the early days and I was there for podcasting. Look. And I realize we're spending a lot of time on this, so it kind of would be nice if we got paid for our time. But one of the things that made podcasting so very popular and why it took off is because it wasn't radio. And if we turn it into radio again, maybe it'll be the independent people that rise above and not shove, you know.Dave Ramsey was doing a keynote and mentioned that if you download his first hour of his radio show, it's only 38 minutes long because the other 22 minutes is advertising. It's crazy. Keep that in mind. Please don't turn podcasting into radio. And I know today we're talking about this AI tool. I'm not AI. I'm not anti AI.I love to create things and let AI kind of punch it up a bit. It does that very well. But if you think that it can do everything for you, think about it. Let's just say that worked.Isn't everybody then going to do the same thing you're doing and then you will not stand out. Just a thought. If you need help with your podcast, I would love to help you. If you like what you hear, then come tell somebody.

Dave Jackson

If you like what you hear, then you're true. See if you can tell what when I see if you can tell when you know. This was supposed to be the name of the crap. The name of the crap.Ah, see, I just gave it away. Hooray.
